Exercise for flat feet
Toe-tapping exercise for flat feet
Flat feet and normal feet is almost the same but the only difference is the arch. In our feet, we have small muscles on the underside of the foot that plays a big part in supporting the arch of our feet. We found one helpful exercise for flat feet in terms of strengthening the muscles that support the arch and that is toe-tapping, or what we like to call Toe Yoga.
How to perform this toe-tapping exercise:
First, start with your foot flat on the floor
Then try to lift your big toe pointing in the air while keeping your other toes down
Switch and lift your other 4 toes pointing in the air while big toe pressed down
Do this a few times until the muscles on the inside of your arch start to feel fatigued
Why do this exercise toe tapping?
This toe-tapping exercise trains the muscles attached to toes to work separately of each other and the other muscles in the foot.
When we try this exercise on one of our patients for the first time, his feet would cramp while doing these toe lifts and that’s how we knew it was targeting the right spots. After a few weeks, he felt the exercise became much easier to move the toes independently. We also find it much more helpful by focusing on holding an arch in the foot while doing this exercise.
